Novy Smokovec The spa is in the centre of the High Tatras National Park,at altitude 1,018 metres above the sea level.One of the first doctors,who laid the foundations to the Tatra climate therapy was MUDr.Mikulas Szontagh (1843 -1899).After a three-year study of climate conditions he built a sanatorium,where he utilized the healing properties of the climate in Tatras.In the autumn of 1876 he opened the first two treatment facilities.Currently there are 320 beds available.
