SKI SLOVAKIA , SKIING IN SLOVAKIA , SKI CENTERS IN SLOVAKIA
In spite of its small area, which is mostly hilly, Slovakia is densely
interwoven by a net of ski-tows and ski-lifts. More than 1000 ski-tows
and 30 ski-lifts are in operation and their number is growing. From
the top the terminal stations there are hundreds of down-hill pistes,
from the very gentle – for beginners, to the most demanding, which comply
with the international criteria for master competitions.
At present, approximately 30 skiing centres make use of artifical snow.

Lavex, Lanovky a vleky na Slovensku, (Ski-lifts and Ski-tows in Slovakia),
a professional organisation, is responsible for the equipment of the
winter centres with means of transport and, in addition it organises
professional training sessions and examinations for ski-lift and ski-tows
service staff, for ski rescue services and multi-track vehicle service
for the ski slopes finish.

Ski Center Donovaly (915 - 1403 m) Slovakia
In
the middle of Slovakia, near Banska Bystrica, is located Donovaly, one
of the biggest winter sports centres. The mountain slopes on the Zvolen
peak attract competent and enthusiastic skiers, the part of Donovaly called
Zahradiste is better suited for family skiing outings. If you are a beginner
you will find good ski schools at Donovaly. Lovers of "non-traditional
sports" like paragliding must not the miss the beautiful panorama
of Donovaly.
Good skiing terrain, large parking sites, a sufficient number of ski-tows
and ski-lifts, a large number of accommodation facilities in mountain
hotels and chalets, together with the mountain rescue service station,
and Alaska-like atmosphere at the dogsledding race, a snowboarding school
and bungee jumping - you will find all this when you visit Donovaly.

Ski Center Skalka (550 - 1232 m) Slovakia
In
the mountain range of Kremnicke vrchy, not far from the medieval royal
mining town of Kremnica you will find the skiing centre - Skalka. If you
stay in hotels or chalets at Skalka you just put your skis on and go downhill
according your skill and choice. There are two easy slopes for beginners,
and three others are suitable for more demanding skiers. And those who
do not find time enough for skiing during the day still have a chance
to ski in the evening on the lit downhill track. Cross-country skiers
know that Skalka has 20 km of perfectly finished cross-country tracks.
Don’t miss the view from 1200 m high Skalka which is one of the most beautiful.
Skalka is also the starting point of The Biela Stopa SNP Race, the second
most demanding race for both professionals and amateurs, after the Swedish
Vasa Race.

Ski Center Martinské Hole (650 - 1440m) Slovakia
An
important skiing centre in the mountain range Mala Fatra near the town
of Martin, it is accessible not only by car but also by the chair lift
from Podstrani (Martin). There are 7 ski- tows, a chair lift, 9 ski tracks
of various levels of difficulty, a ski servicing, ski hire service and
a ski school for young and adult skiers at your disposal. Cross-country
skiing enthusiasts will be pleased to find the cross-country tracks within
the Martinske Hole tourist centre area as well as on the mountain ridge
of Martinske Hole. At the end of the winter season the farewell party
and snow-carnival takes place.

Ski Center Vratna (620 - 1709m) Slovakia
You
will find the ski centre Vratna in one of the most beautiful valleys in
Slovakia, in the Vratna valley which is situated in the Krivan part of
the mountain range of the Mala Fatra. Its north-facing downhill slopes
will give you a chance to enjoy snow and skiing until late spring. The
centre is equipped with 4 chair lifts, 13 ski-tows and ski equipment hire
services. The youngest fans of this beautiful sport - skiing are taught
by trained teachers from ski schools. If you wish to share the feelings
of the World Cup champions you can try the professional downhill racing
tracks – in the ice cauldron under Grun in Vratna. You will surely enjoy
evening skiing with artificial lighting, or a ride on a horse sledge.
The downhill skiing races, dogsled racing and evenings listening to the
Terchovska folk music ensemble enriches the offer at the Vratna skiing
centre.

Ski Center Jasna (950 - 2024m) Slovakia
The
centre Jasna is located in the Demanovska valley on the northern slopes
of the Dumbier section of the Nizke Tatry. You will find here all you
need for pleasant winter holiday: The best downhill runs and cross-country
skiing tracks, 7 chair lifts, 14 ski-tows, l cable car, a ski school,
a ski equipment hiring services, ski-servicing, excellent conditions for
ski-alpinism and paragliding, and even winter bathing in the thermal swimming
pool in Besenova. In the Demanovska valley you can visit the Ice Cave
and the Cave of Freedom which is accessible all year round. Every year
European or World Cup championship downhill skiing takes place here.

Ski Center Vysoke Tatry: Strbske Pleso (1300 - 1915m) and Skalnate Pleso (1600
- 2200m) Slovakia
The
centre Strbske Pleso is a part of a national park. It is situated on the
southern section of the Krivanska razsocha (bifurcation) at the lake of
the same name. It boasts of excellently finished downhill runs and cross-country
tracks , 2 cable rails, 3 ski-tows, evening skiing, ski service, a ski
equipment hiring service, sledging and toboganning, paragliding, Strbske
Pleso offers you all this. And anybody who wants more can try the magic
of winter mountain climbing with a mountain guide. To the fans of the
Nordic ski disciplines Tatra Cup is an event featuring annually in the
World Cup series. Competent skiers will have the time of their life if
they visit the most highly situated ski centre Skalnate Pleso, where on
the demanding slope of the Lomnicke sedlo they can test their skiing skills.
Skalnate Pleso affords you a beautiful view from Lomnicky Peak which you
can reach by cable car.

Ski Center Plejsy - Krompachy (485 - 1025m) Slovakia
A
much-sought after ski centre is located southeast of the town of Krompachy,
in the Spis region. Thanks to its natural condition it is as if it were
created for family holidays but even competent skiers can find excellent
conditions here. The downhill runs are situated on the northern slopes
of the Krompassky vrch which you can reach by one of 7 ski-tows or by
the double chair lift 2 km long. If you want to exchange the downhill
skis for cross-country ones you will find here several kilometres of cross-country
tracks.
Plejsy is the annual scene of the European Cup in women’s cross-country
skiing disciplines.
