Topics
Traumatic or degenerative cartilage lesions are common. If untreated they do not heal and can lead to the development of osteoarthritis.
New method for the enhancement of cartilage repair have been advocated over the past 3-5 years. Some of them are still in experimental stage, others have immediately entered clinical trials.
Currently numerous basic science projects are on the verge of entering clinical applications.
The time has to come to gather scientists and clinicians, interested in the field of cartilage repair, to critically address the questions: Where do we stand in cartilage repair, which methods promise to be succesful, how many years of observation are required to ensure that a method is safe and efficious ?
